Straight answers to the questions that usually come before a rendering job.
Hairline cracks usually mean the render dried too fast, went on in the wrong weather, or the mix was too strong for the wall. They are cosmetic. Cracks you can fit a coin edge into let water in, freeze and push the render off, so they need cutting out and repairing. Diagonal cracks from window corners follow movement in the wall and need looking at first.
Read the full answer →Green on render is algae, and it grows where the wall stays damp: north-facing elevations, walls shaded by trees or hedges, and anywhere a leaking gutter keeps the surface wet. It does not damage the render itself, but it looks poor and it tells you that part of the wall is holding water. A gentle wash with a biocide clears it; fixing the damp source stops it coming back.

The render system, wall area, access and the state of the existing wall are what set the price.
